Graduate Scholarship Description
The National Chapter of Canada IODE initiated War Memorial Doctoral Scholarships in 1918 to commemorate Canadianswho sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom.
Initially, bursaries were granted to children of men and women who losttheir lives or who were permanently disabled while fighting for Canada. Today, applicants are judged on academicexcellence and potential.
Candidates must be Canadian citizens and in at least their second year of doctoral program at aCanadian or Commonwealth university. Scholarships are valued at $15,000.

In each province, a seven member Committee of Selection composed of four IODE members and three universityprofessors will consider the academic attainments and promise as well as personal character and career goals of applicants.
NOTE: Provincial Committees of Selection do not award the scholarships; they recommend candidates to the NationalSelection Committee.The National Committee of Selection composed of up to five IODE members and three university professors, will meet inMarch 2014. All recommended applicants will be contacted by letter.
Winners MUST inform the National War MemorialOfficer within two weeks of their intention to accept or relinquish the scholarship.
